Book Description:
In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles to determine who her friends really are—and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes infuriating boy fits into the life she's chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she's kept hidden from everyone because she's been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers a growing conflict that threatens to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves… or it might destroy her.

Debut author Veronica Roth bursts onto the literary scene with the first book in the Divergent series—dystopian thrillers filled with electrifying decisions, heartbreaking betrayals, stunning consequences, and unexpected romance.

My Review:
Okay, this was a book that once again my daughter, whom many of you know as Ali from Ali's Bookshelf, recommended to me. After reading some other dystopian books she also thought I would like this one. Needless to say, I was so engrossed in the book that it was hard to get much other things done. I started on June 8th and was done on June 18th.

Veronica Roth's debut with Divergent was AMAZING! Is Amazing!

Why do I think it is amazing? It was amazing because the different kinds of back beliefs as far as the factions. Which some you will not find out from me. Also I went back and forth with some of the characters and was so amazed at their different personalities that linked them to their faction. Why do they get to, or must choose when they are sixteen-years-old as to which faction they will be in and claim as their new and only families.

Beatrice was or is a young girl who doubts herself, but she is awesome at some of the things she makes up her mind to do. The new name, Tris grows on me fast, which is a name she picks for herself after she picks her faction. As do some of the other characters names.

The secrets, thrills, excitement, the story revolves around a city and it is broken up between five different factions, Candor, Abnegation, Amity, Dauntless, and Erudite. I was fascinated by the name of the book though, because it is called Divergent. So when starting to read and here about the different factions and even the city itself was not called Divergent. Hmmm. Well if you haven't heard or read I sure am not going to tell you why. But it will cause you to want more and more of the story and these characters.

One choice... Decides your friends, defines your beliefs, determines your loyalties forever..... Can Transform You!!

What I didn't like, well some of the language. And the bullying, but only because I was bullied when I was growing up. It can make you or break you. And seeing Tris was already doubting herself it was kind of hard to take. But it does make the story what it is which is Awesome!!!

So for those reasons my Breath of Life Rating is:

The story is written in first person from Trice's perspective. She's a good narrator, though first-person does make the action/fight sequences a little clunky. 'Divergent' also has plenty of action, humor, mystery and a little bit of romance.
