Synopsis:
A Woman who is Superstitious to the Core…

A Boy who claims his Parents are Dead…

A Murderer who wants to Silence the Truth of What Happened.

Olivia Westerly knows what she knows—opals mean disaster, eleven is the unluckiest number on earth and children weigh a woman down like a pocketful of stones. That’s why she’s avoided marriage for almost forty years. But when Charlie Doyle happened along, he was simply too wonderful to resist. Now she’s a widow with an eleven-year-old boy claiming to be her grandson.

Winner of a Royal Palm Literary Award…Spare Change is a quirky mix of Southern flair, serious thoughts about the important things in life, the madcap adventures of a young boy and a late change of heart that makes all the difference in an unusually independent woman.

With a foul mouth, dark secrets and heavily guarded emotions, Ethan Allen Doyle is not an easy child to like. He was counting on the grandpa he’d never met for a place to hide, but now that plan is shot to blazes because the grandpa’s dead too. He’s got seven dollars and twenty-six cents, his mama’s will for staying alive, and Dog. But none of those things are gonna help if Scooter Cobb finds him

My Review:
When I was approached about reading and reviewing this book my first thought after reading the synopsis was, this book has all the prerequisites that I like. But when looking at the cover, I just wasn't sure. MAN, was I sure surprised! All though, I will have to say that there was some foul language with in this book.

Author Bette Lee Crosby is an Outstanding author. Her writing in this book takes you from oh no, to OH NO in so many different ways. Your heart goes out to Olivia when she feels that she finally has "It All!" only to loose Charlie Doyle, and becomes a widow. Then if that was not enough to handle, along comes this snot nose kid who thinks or says he is Charlie Doyles grandson. And to put it mildly, he has baggage all of his own!

The whit, serious, Southern hospitality, all mix in with mystery, murder and superstitions makes for one awesome story line.

I will not go into the book any further only to say, I am so glad I did not judge this book by the cover, Because I thoroughly Loved this Book. Except, there again I will have to say that the foul language held it back some.

So due to the above I am giving this book a Breath of Life Rating of:

Four Clock Rating!!!

Disclosure: I received this book in exchange for my review. The opinions are mine. And your opinion may differ.
